-- from the author Dave Allen:
I started to keep pigeons when I was ten years old and begasn racing at fourteen years of age. In those far-off days I used to walk five miles to the railway station with a basket of pigeons which were despathched overnight to a distance of forty miles. On the basket was a note addressed to station master askinf him to release the pigeons at 6:30 a.m. weather permitting. If all went well, I used to see the pigeons come home before going to school and eventually work.

One of the firsst "Cards" I managed to win, hangs on the wall in our dining room - Third prize - "Hendon" 136 miles. The year, 1957, - exactly thirty years ago as I pen these notes.

Alongside the card are a number of Federation sheets which high light the times we have taken the first five or six positions in whichever Federation we have been flying at the time. On many of these occasions there have been 2,500 to 3,000 pigeons in the race.

To achieve feats like this there are three things you need. In order of priority, they are...
a) a good loft
b) exceptional pigeons
c) stock sense

These three items plus many more are covered in the following pages of this book.

I do hope it makes interesting reading and that when you have read the last chapter you will have gained a little extra knowledge in the Art of Racing Pigeons....
